05/11/2010--Maybe knowing that it was the last weekend of the tournament put them on their game, but the Osage Beach USBC BA quintet called Precision Auto demolished the standings at the 2010 MSUSBC Open Championships in Joplin.

Bowling on the Saturday afternoon squad at 3:00 PM, Sonny Burns led off the team with a 669 series, including a 243 high game.  Burns averages 208.  Darrel Murphy, a 186 average bowler, turned in 638 on consistent scores of 214, 209, and 215.  Mike Smith, one pin better at 187, added 671 with a 279 start.  Robert Baird and Danny Wood capped it off with killer series' of 735 and 769 respectively.  Baird averages 189, and had games of 257, 201, and 277, while Wood carded 244, 279, and 246 on his 216 average.  The team had 3,477 scratch, and when added to their 273 pins of handicap, beat the existing high score by 144 pins, and will receive $1,650.00.

Ron’s Collision from the Mexico USBC Association took second place.   This team from Laddonia, MO entered the Open with an 887 team average, and bettered that total by 144 pins a game.  The effort was led by Colby Taylor, who shot 684 scratch with a 161 entering average.  Jonathan Taylor added 585, Jeff Nichols 608, John Taylor 592, and Jim Cook 626.  Their 3,095 total, with 511 pins of handicap, gives them 3,606, good for $1,155.00.

The two teams who entered the last weekend tied for the Scratch Team lead probably figured they had the championship in the bag.  However, Sterling Bowl #4 from the Greater Kansas City MO USBC had something to say about that.

In the first squad on Saturday, this Sterling Bowl team, a legitimately scratch group averaging 1,121, shot games of 1142, 1169 and 1280 for a total of 3,591.  Mike Seroka led off with a 663 set.  Joe Bush followed with 780, including a 276 last game.  Jeff Lucas filled the three-hole nicely with 731, including 289 in his finale.  Don Fowler carded a perfect game for his last, to finish a 737 series.  Finally, Brian Goebel shot 680 to complete the effort.  Their First Place prize is $1,000 for the scratch division.

Kiss Da Baby from the Greater Kansas City MO USBC shot 3,561, tying for Second Place.  Entering with an 1130 team average, big things would be expected, and they didn’t disappoint.  Rick Thurber led off with 712, including games of 246 and 257.  Rachel Kent added 649, while William Dierking used a 264-279 start to post 747.  James Kent Jr. also shot 747, starting off with 258 and 268.  Marc Heninger anchored the team with a solid 706.  They receive $647.50.

The St. Louis Masters team also stepped up to the challenge, tying for Second Place.  Tim Behrendt led off with 761, including a 299 start.  Cale Young posted 721 with games of 248 and 254 to start.  Nick Weber added 644, Dustin Boice a very steady 237-238-247 for 722, and Michael Sapolis finished with 713.  Their total was also 3,561.  They also receive $647.50 for their efforts.

Congratulations to these teams for their fine shooting.
